A few months ago, my LH (Loving Husband) and I started going down the nutritional rabbit hole. By this I mean we started reading books and watching oodles of documentaries about food. This is something I had avoided in my … Continue reading

Almost There, or The Pain of Bardo
Years ago, I went on a date with a diabetic. This was during a time in my life when I was convinced that I would never, ever again meet someone I could possibly love, let alone spend the rest of my life with. I was 29 or so and in the thick of dealing with my body going awry and watching what I perceived as every single person I knew getting engaged or married, and so I went on a date with a man who asked me out on — if you can even recall such a time — Friendster. He claimed to be like Josh Lyman from The West Wing, and that meant a whole lot to me in those days. Continue reading
Join the Conversation: Life’s Luxuries (These were your favourites!)
Lemon Tart is (very!) Lemon Tardy summing up the March Salon Question: What is the luxury you cannot do without and why is it indispensable to you? You all had delicious things to say. In fact, if I strung all of them together it sounds like the kind of day or weekend that would be hard to resist. Imagine 48 hours of this:

A Gift of Song
When I was about 10 years old, I convinced my parents that I needed singing lessons by crooning out a rendition of Whitney Houston’s ‘Saving All My Love for You’. There I stood, a plump Asian girl, holding a plastic … Continue reading
The Secrets We Keep
These days when I leave the house, I take the refrigerator with me. For a three-hour-long journey, I pack two peanut-butter sandwiches, two yogurts, an apple, two oranges, crackers, water and ginger ale. For a shorter trip—to the bank, let’s … Continue reading
Cold Kickin’
I don’t get sick. I normally scoff at any discussion of “flu season” and sail through the winter without so much as a stuffy nose. On the rare occasions I do catch a cold, I may have a few, mild … Continue reading
